STOP THE HATE PROGRAM

Program Initiatives
Stop the Hate (STH) Program provides support and services to victims and survivors of hate incidents and hate crimes and their families and facilitate hate incident or hate crime prevention measures.
Stop the Hate services include the following categories:
• Direct Services, including mental health and complementary health services; wellness and community healing; legal services; navigation, case management, and referral.
• Prevention Services, including arts-based and other cultural work that deepens understanding and empathy; youth development; senior safety and ambassador/escort programs; individual and community safety planning; training, including bystander training and other de-escalation techniques; working across racial groups and other impacted populations to strengthen alliances and promote understanding.
• Intervention Services, including outreach and training on the elements of hate incidents and hate crimes, services for survivors, and the rights of survivors; community-centered alternative approaches to repair harm from hate incidents and hate crimes; coordination and liaising with local government and other institutional partners; and coordinated regional rapid response.
Oakland Chinatown Chamber of Commerce Stop The Hate Program includes the following activities:
- Provides direct services to victims of crime and people who suffered losses by referring them to community partners for crime reporting, mental/physical health and recovery services, and financial aid. Includes fundraising for victims, if requested. Also includes helping law enforcement entities pull up video images in a timely fashion of violent activities and suspected behavioral activities leading to losses in Oakland Chinatown using the Chamber’s 50 public camera system.
- Provide personal safety training to the community at community meetings, through social media sites, and mass media.
- Host events that enable the Chamber to offer cultural entertainment to the Asian and non-Asian community to educate everyone about the various cultures and gain understanding and empathy. Events include the Lunar New Year Bazaar, StreetFest and Safety Fair, etc.
- Collaborate with law enforcement, government entities, other Chambers of Commerce and business organizations in Oakland and the surrounding area to co-host community meetings to address crime and advocate for crime prevention on behalf of the community.
